This rose is based on an old design (Zenti) and is laser cut from two layers
of paper on two different levels. The outer ring sits on the surface of the
soundboard and the inner circle sits behind the soundhole.
Diameter of outer ring 113mm
Diameter of inner ring 80mm
Also available ungilded (no photos available, apologies). Make your choice in
the options when you purchase.
Also available as the inner circle only to sit behind the soundhole, as a
separate listing
You can also supply photos for other designs, or request other sizes and I'll
let you know the cost of the design work involved.
Parchment Roses are a decorative element placed in the sound hole of
harpsichords, mandolins and baroque guitars.
These roses have been laser-cut from archive-quality, professionally mold-made
paper. The designs are my own interpretations of old roses, often several
hundred years old.
The roses vary in degrees of complexity. Most have two or three layers of
paper, sometimes on more than one level. They are sealed with size and
sometimes gilded with 24 carat gold leaf and painted with pigment.
The techniques I have developed for making these from paper have so many
variables that these are very much hand-crafted items. Use of a laser cutter
only makes one part of the process easier and each rose is subtly different
from others made at the same time.
Shipping price includes tracking/signed for delivery and insurance.
