This 14" Cowskin drum, matching drum bag and mallet were custom made by Sonara

♥ MEDICINE OF THE BEAR
Many tribes ascribe the following qualities and skills to bear medicines;
wisdom, dreaming, healing powers and the knowledge of how to properly
administer healing herbs. Among the Pueblo tribes, bears are considered one of
the six directional guardians associated with the west. The Zunis carve stone
bear fetishes for protection and also to bring them good luck. A bear's claw is
one of the talismans frequently included in medicine bundles and warriors often
wear bear claw necklaces to bring them power and strength.
The female's devoted maternal behavior is often noted in folktales where
mother bears sacrifice themselves for their cubs or adopt human children.

♥ ITEM DESCRIPTIONS ----------------------
* 14" DRUM --
- lightweight, travel sized bleached cowskin rawhide
- she has a sweet spot where she hums
- the rim is wrapped with soft moss green leather to blunt the rippled rawhide
edging around the frame
(The cowhide did not shrink itself enough to lay flat. This gives it a unique
one of a kind look.)
- lacing on the back; some is dyed green rawhide with waxed sinew for added
stability and another design element
- hand cut rawhide wrapped hoop holds the tension around the rim
- yellow cedar hoop/frame
- 2.5" diameter wooden ring as the hand hold in the center
- hand painted image in acrylics on drum face of a Grizzly Bear emerging from
her cave which is inside a bear paw inside a mountain

* DRUM BAG --
- durable upholstery fabric outside in burnt orange velvet, bear in forest
print as front flap with outside pouch for beater on the back
- coffee with cream colored ultra-suede lining
- 15" wide x 15" tall x 3" thick
- shoulder strap is 35" long x 2.25" wide

* MATCHING BEATER --
- 15" long denuded branch
- stuffed with batting
- wrapped with honey golden suede and
- soft moss green leather at handle grip sewn with waxed sinew and fringed at
the end
